The State of Surveillance in Kenya is the result of an ongoing collaboration by Privacy International and National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Kenya.


The Kenya Communications Authority (KCA) collects statistics on the communications sector. Mobile penetration was recorded at 83.9 % in June 2015, with 36.1 million mobile subscriptions. There were an estimated 29.6 million internet users in Kenya in June 2015, with 69 % of the population with access to the internet, according to the KCA.
